The Clockwork Bard

Tinkering with the Cogs of Gaming

About the Clockwork Bard

About the Clockwork Bard, the Site

This is my catch all site for all things gaming.  Classic console gaming is my first love, but I’m also happy stretching out with a tabletop adventure or modern PC title.

About the Clockwork Bard, the Person

I am a hardcore gamer by definition (Urban Dictionary is a reputable dictionary, right?), but am too casual of a person to willingly adopt the title.  Gaming connoisseur, maybe?  Sounds too posh.  Gaming guru?  A bit arrogant, I feel.  Gaming veteran?  That will do.  I am a veteran of many eras and genres of gaming dating back to a time when home consoles didn’t have enough memory to store a tweet.  (Fun Fact: the Atari 2600 had 128 bytes of RAM, not enough to store your 140 character Twitter message.)

Why “The Clockwork Bard”?

I believe that games have a tremendous power to evoke emotion and create experiences for us.  Like a clockwork music box, they are only machines acting on preprogrammed sequences of data and mechanical motions.  Yet, by adding our own human experiences and feelings, they have a power of expression unattainable in any other media.

They are both machine and minstrel.
